Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22nd, 1985, in New York City New York) has received acclaim for her abilities to perform across genres ranging from historical dramas, thrillers and action-packed films. Johansson was raised within New York City as the daughter of an architect, and also the owner of a production company. Hunter, the sister of Johansson was born in the city of New York. At the age of seven years old, her love of acting was growing. She started to audition for commercials. Her interest in acting grew quickly and she enrolled soon after to the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In the Off-Broadway production Sophistry she acted alongside Ethan Hawke. She then made her first film appearance in North (1994) which was directed by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson was next seen as a character in Just Cause (1996), however it was Manny & Lo 1996 that gave her her breakthrough. The film tells the story of two girls orphaned by their parents who are running away. Then, she was awarded high praise from critics for her performance as a teenage girl who had suffered an accident that caused her to be damaged as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998).
